Ukulele to Billboard Magazine, Grace VanderWaal

Grace VanderWaal was born on January 15, 2004, in Kansas and is now from Suffern, New York.  She lives with her mother Tina, her father David, her older sister (also her best friend) by three years Olivia.

She started singing at the age of three. She bought her first Ukulele with her birthday money from her 11th birthday and a few months later, she began to write songs. Her ukulele is the same size, but Grace VanderWaal has grown up plenty since she first appeared on TV as a 12-year-old “America’s Got Talent” champion in 2016. She was the winner of the competition, claiming the $1,000,000 prize and the headlining of a show in Las Vegas.

Now, after releasing music, touring the nation, and modeling, the singer/songwriter has a new role as the titular star of the Disney movie “Stargirl”. Offscreen, VanderWaal, now 16, is recording a follow-up to her 2019 EP, “Letters, Vol. 1.”

She won the 2017 Radio Disney Music Award for Best New Artist and a Teen Choice Award has been named to Billboard magazine's 21 Under 21 list of fast-rising young music stars in four consecutive years (2016–2019), received the 2017 Billboard Women in Music Rising Star Award, and is the youngest person ever included in Forbes' 30 Under 30 Music List.
